What is recruitment marketing and how can you do it well?

Recruitment marketing is essential to attracting the right talent - which is s the lifeblood of any thriving organisation. So, what exactly is recruitment marketing?

Recruitment marketing is the process of engaging skilled individuals to apply to work with your organisation. And most importantly, it's not just a numbers game - it's about attracting the right kind of talent who are motivated to work for you, will make a strong contribution to your organisation, and will stay there for a significant length of time.

The organisations that do this best create a strong reputation (employer brand) and a great environment (employee experience) that pulls in the best and brightest minds and makes them want to hang around. It's about establishing your organisation as a place where talent wants to land, grow, and stay. So, how can you ace this? Here are some tips:

  1. Define your Employee Value Proposition (EVP): Your EVP is essentially your promise to your employees. It's the unique blend of benefits, rewards, culture, and career opportunities you provide. A well-articulated EVP can be your most potent tool for attracting talent.

  2. Develop an employer branding strategy: Your employer brand is how you are perceived as an employer in the job market. It's about showcasing your company's culture, values, and work environment. It's all about authentic storytelling - showing what it's really like to work there, how you're actually delivering on your DEI and ESG commitments, the impact you are having on your customers and clients, and how your company values really come to life day to day.

  3. Leverage social media: Today's talent is online. Get your message out on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and even TikTok. Use these opportunities to showcase your organisation, engage with potential candidates, and build a following. Think visually, and think mobile first if you are looking to attract Gen Z and Millennials.

  4. Get involved: Consider sponsoring local events that your employees care about, and get involved in your community. Show that you really do give back to the people you draw your talent from, and give people an emotional connection to your brand.

Just remember that your talent attraction is not a one-and-done activity, but an ongoing strategy that needs continuous research and updating!
