St John’s Foundation

When one of the UK’s oldest and most respected charities wanted to bring to life what they do, the difference they make and what it’s like to work for them, they commissioned us to create a film to authentically communicate what they stand for. As we always do, we started with research to unearth the stories behind the people the St John’s Foundation supports and those that work there.

What we did

  • The St John’s Foundation wanted to communicate the difference they make through both supporting children from birth to 12 years old, and older people aged over 55 and the commitment, culture and community of the team that runs the Foundation.

We ran a series of workshops with the Foundation to dig deeper into the culture and values at the charity and to eventually identify individuals and their stories that represented each value.

  • We came up with the idea of following 3 individuals through a day in their lives, two illustrating the people the Foundation support and one giving insight to the people behind the Foundation.

  • With the concept and key messages agreed, we developed a storyline and shot list, and worked with the individuals being interviewed in the film to clarify their key messages.

  • We balanced the need for the film to be slick and well made with being real and relatable by shooting handheld, using real people instead of actors, and allowing for unscripted moments to creep in.
