UK Government

In 2015 our co-founder Emma Wharton Love worked at Cabinet Office to devise and deliver a standard for new, smart ways of working that meant UK Government employees were empowered to work between any office, their homes and other locations.

Working at the Cabinet Office and with EY and the British Standards Institute, Emma Wharton developed a the official guideline for all UK businesses on ways of working - designed to accelerate a step-change in the way civil servants and UK PLC works, increasing productivity, improving work/life balance and contributing to significant annual saving in Government estate running costs.

To deliver this we established an innovate government / private sector initiative to produce a British Standard for Smart Working (PAS3000). Gained the backing of those at the top and forefront of delivering workplace or organisational change at: Virgin, BBC, Vodafone, Mircosoft and EY. This included Richard Branson pledging his personal support.

What we did

  • We researched how the UK Government across its many departments worked and what would empower employees to be more productive - using qualitative and quantitative methods including surveys and forming working groups and steering groups, including a government and industry board - with leadership representatives from Virgin, BBC, EY, Vodafone and Microsoft.
